Attached is the latest press release from Konami Digital Entertainment B.V!
Image from Konami (click for a larger image)
Quote: Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. are pleased to announce, that U Beat (also known as Jubeat in Japan and Asia) is currently being tested at Tenpin Bowl, in Acton, West London (please check the link for more information on the site - http://www.tenpin.co.uk/home/our_locations/acton.stml ).
U Beat is a rythmic action game that has proved to be hugely popular in overseas markets. Using 16 buttons layed out in a grid formation, that light up in sequence to the time of the music. Players must try to keep in time with the music by pressing the buttons as they light-up. The current version is a prototype and has a wide range of music to enjoy.
The game will not be on test for too long therefore if you get a chance please play it and let us know your thoughts (enquiries@konami.co.uk) !
All the best
Konami Digital Entertainment B.V.
----
As the press release states the machine won't be down there for too long, and Konami are looking for feedback. So why not head on down to Acton and see what you think. Remember anything you feel would make the game better, Konami want to know!
However be sensible, don't go overboard with complaints, be constructive with them.
Here is a link to the machine location within the database: click here
Enjoy!
Colin

So... I take it's there right now then?
Also, uBeat loc test is really great, good to see that Konami are willing to try a new product out over here, I just wonder what Acton bowling is like. Is it really the best place to do the test? The bowling alley in Leeds where the most recent location test for GF/DM wasn't exactly the best place to try them out, sadly.
Anyway, Google Maps of the location, so it's nice and easy to plot your route if you want to go. I'd love to go, but... ugh, London is so far away, and the closest I'll be for a long time will be Expo...

They aren't directing these test locations to just the hardcore music game fans. Most leisure buyers will be looking of ways to service the "family" demographic as that's where they get the largest percentage of sales. That is why they chose random locations each time. Although we're the ones who will give this product it's longevity, companies will look to get the most profitable return for their investment.
Hopefully it will be there for a few months so we get a good chance to try it out. Fingers crossed it goes well so we can get more Ubeat machines in the UK

I completely see your point with using random locations to estimate returns, but I do feel that they should try locations that will actually be inclined to rent/purchase the machines in the end when they try them out. Typically that's not going to be your average bowling alley for a brand new version of DM/GF or uBeat. I can't quite see how you could accurately model revenue by placing the machines in these kind of places, where the existing arcades are only still there because once sunny day, a long time ago, people still played them both casually and hardcore.
By this I don't mean they have to put the machines in places like the Troc, just somewhere in the market that might actually pick it up; Hollywood Bowl in Leeds, for example, is not the kind of place that would pay out for a GF/DM V4 cab, and I deeply wonder what the situation with Tenpin in Acton is like for arcade cabs.
As I said though, the fact that Konami is even willing to try out a new product like this on the UK market is great news. Would love to have a try, but I don't see it happening, which is a shame.

I know what you mean, but typically they have made deals with the leisure chain running the tenpin/megabowl/whatever with the location test. The chain will decide which location the machine will go in, not Konami.

Ah, right, I wasn't aware of that. Clears things up greatly.
