Hello boys and girls,

Consider this an interest check at the moment - no commitment by anyone at this stage.

Seeing as several people seem to have home machines now, I'm wondering if anyone wants to get on board a group order from one of the Hong Kong parts distributors such as Channelbeat, Uniarcade or Coinopexpress (or maybe the Australian-based Highway Games who use the same suppliers)? The biggest problem with these distros is the stupid shipping charges and crap like one-off-per-order wire fees, and these could be kept relatively low if a bunch of people get involved. The parts these places produce are unashamedly knock-offs, but on the whole tend to be reasonable quality from what I've heard.

I'm looking to get a plexiglass marquee holder (and am NOT paying electrocoin's asking price of £150 for a crappy bit of plastic - c'mon!). Items would be delivered to me in Manchester, and then either could be posted to you or collected (probably cheaper if it's heavy stuff) from here or alternatively London (I'm usually down there every month or tow at latest).

Anyone interested in principle (Fixed costs such as the wire fee would be split equally between people involved, but shipping would mostly be proportional to the weight of items ordered (subject to a small fixed minimum so that everyone contributes!) - also remember that there will invariably be a VAT charge of 15% by her majesties lovely tax collectors on the package :{)?

If so, post here with the kind of things you'd be looking for, and I'll make some initial enquiries.

Finally, remember that for heavy stuff like pad plexis, the main cost is the shipping price, not the unit cost.

I'd be incredibly interested in this! Im already looking to customise my cab anyone, so grabbing a few spare parts while Im at it, would be a good idea. I know I want to replace the majority of parts anyways, just to have it looking brand new.

Strangely enough, one of my plexi arrow panels broke, but Adam will give me one of his arrows. Glad you got a new set when you did Chi :-) (Dont ask me how it broke...it was like wtf?)

Im looking for a new plexiglass marquee holder too. Turns out they put the wrong type of marquee in and it doesnt fix perfectly.... I also need new coloured plexiglass for the treble speakers, as the colour has faded and the lights only flash white :-)

Also Chi, do you know where to get different coloured neons for the lights in the pad sensors? As Im looking to replace the plastic film on the panels (I dont like the look of the pink and blue arrows)

I am waiting on a box of screws for the pads and the general machine. These will be countersunk. I'll have a box of like 200, so if anyone needs any screws, for their local arcade (if you're allowed to mod it slightly) or for their own machine, let me know and I'll pop some in the post :-)

This is a great idea Chi! (Y)

i would like some floor sensors (spare ones are always a good idea!) havent managed to test mine fully as of yet.

2 arrow plexi's as spares

2 bar covers, just because they are cheap!

---

i think all 3 of those websites sell these, so it shouldnt be too much trouble! =)

i visit macclesfield and london occasionally, near enough i guess!

Good job, I'll start getting a list together and then will ask for quotes from the big boys.

Ricky: Panels do break occasionally (more often the crack first), but it needs a lot of abuse over a long period, generally.

In terms of new coloured plexiglass, I just wrapped the plexiglass with some optical coloured gel filter (cheap as chips) on both sides - cost me about £2 total. I also installed 10W bulbs instead of the normal 20W ones (as they are BRIGHT in a house - they are meant for an arcade with ****loads of ambient lightling).

I've heard the Chinese-made plexiglass marquee holders are ok, but you need to re-drill the screw holes (easy task).

In terms of different coloured CCFL lights, no idea - next time I've got my pads open (should be soon, I need to re-attached the dust guard to the RHS pad) I'll have a butchers at them. I highly expect you can just swap out the bulbs with a comparable one, but we'd need the spec of them.

Btw, here's a link to the parts page of Channelbeat for info of what types of parts we are likely to be able to get

Bingo, just what I am looking for... I have a bunch of items I am looking to get, like the plexiglass headers and connecting tubes mainly. Although I could do with some more arrows too.

Yay, big group order gets :-)

For all y'all info, I'd be looking to get this properly underway by the end of the month, latest (as in have quotes and crap and be ready to order). I can hurry it up a bit if peops want, though. I want to keep things out in the open much like last year's DDRfreak grouporder over in the US.

There's no commitment until we get quotes in and prepare to order, then I'll probably take a deposit from people who are definitely on board (since all this crap will be in USD$, it's going to be tricky to work out precisely how much everything is in £ until the order is actually paid for - I can bankroll that a bit).

Btw, here's that DDRfreak thread from a group order in the US to Uniarcade, and a review of the schtuff they got:
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=130584&start=0

Edit: The other thing to note is that I'll be doing this strictly at actual costs (sadly this includes rubbish like the 2.5%ish that ripoff banks tend to load on foreign currency exchanges - grr), I'm not looking to get rich off this :-) If, at the end, it all goes swimmingly and you want to buy me a beer (or slip me a fiver :-)) for sorting this out then I'd gladly accept it, but there's no obligation. It also means that if something miraculous happens (such as not getting stung for VAT by HMRC - unlikely but we can hope!), we'll all gain from it.

We'll want some bits down here.

Not 100% sure yet, but the prelim list is marquee holder, 2 spare arrows (one blue one pink!), and maybe a couple of sensors as one of the ones in our machine (maybe 2) are a lot worse than all the others :-)

Mike, the pads seemed to be pretty amazing when I played on them. Unless you're on about the down arrow on P2? :-)

Oh, I've remembered, Im gonna need 2 bar covers too...My ITG didnt come with any :-) I want the mid-range ones, the ones which are leather(plasticy?) and have a bit of cushion to them, but not the rubbish thin ones, but not the bulky foam (?) type bars that the Q Mix had :/

End of the month is fine, as I'd have got paid again by then! :-)

Thanks Chi for sorting this out, very considerate of you =D

EDIT: Anyone know where to find ITG2 decals these days? The ones that stick around the screen especially. Any ideas on how to print a marquee, what materials etc? I have the specified image ready.
