News Summary
Well it was 7 years ago to this date that DDRUK first opened it's doors to the public, and started serving the community. From the bright yellow front page till now, many things have changed, and DDRUK has evolved from the simple website, designed to get the UK population interested, to the mascots, and the events we run, however we thank you all for supporting us these past 7 years

Who would have thought that 7 years ago I would be posting this news post! -- Well secretly I had hoped that I would have been posting for many many years after we started out here, but for us to be where we are now... we couldn't have done it without you!

7 years ago, Cellexe, Lawrence, Galford and myself became the founders of DDRUK, starting from a trip to Feltham Magabowl, playing on the newly purchased Dancing Stage Euromix 2's, decided it would be fun to set up a website to attract those in the UK who did play back then.

We started off slow, building the code base from scratch was something I decided to to, in an attempt to ensure that we could have one log in that worked for the whole website, something back then which was just a dream in most people's eyes! While the domain for DDRUK was bought on the 9th of September, the first user was finally added to the database just gone midnight on the 11th of September 2002. Throughout the day, I bought the user registration script online, and opened up to the public... offering a forum... actually yeah that was all I offered, a simple forum which you could reply posts too, no pages, 2 open forums... News and General Talk!

On the 24th of October 2002, DDRUK ran its first Tournament, back at Feltham Megabowl again, with the winners Qnoxx and Sevish eventually making it on to be staff on DDRUK:

Eventually I decided, wouldn't it be good to get a DDR machine (one of those things you think back and you think to youself.. was that actually a good idea!) -- A few months after DDR Extreme was released in Japan... I took delivery of one to my house, something which within the UK was unheard of at the time

Many tournaments and meets happened over the course of the next few years, we started getting recognised around the world, at anime conventions like AyaCon, AmeCon, MinamiCon, Wildercon/Tokonastu, Auchinawa and many others... and we then got invited to run a small stand at the London MCM Expo, which expanded into the Telford MCM Expo, and this weekend the Cosplay Roadshow, from a single machine an one console, to 3 DDR machines, music games, fighting games and the odd side shooter once in a while!

So here we are 7 years later, planning the next few events which we are going to be at... many things have changed since DDRUK started, no longer are we just a website for people to talk with others, but we have evolved into running massive events, assisting groups within the community, talking with Konami and helping them work out the next moves for their new and latest game. We have seen the build up and the fall of many new arcade games, some which still hang about today, we have seen the other communities out there build up and vanish, with some websites still going strong all the same today.

However I wish to personally thank everyone who has made DDRUK what it is today, from the website, to the events, from anime conventions to the festivals and the Expo's, the many different hosting providers I have been with, the staff who have worked so hard on DDRUK, the past and present inclusive, the people that have stuck by me while I stress about everything that happens on the website, the founders that were there from the start, the volunteers which have helped out at all of the events, the people that have posted news, gained contribution points, which helped with subscriptions and donations, the other websites out there which have contributed the greater community. I wish I could name everyone, but the list would be longer than this post. If I have ever forgotten in the past, or forget now... I say here in front of everyone. THANK YOU.

Here is hoping to the future of DDRUK, and keep your eye on the future!

Colin Barker
Webmaster of DDRUK

I'm doing the same as GalFord! I remember being staff once. Left to go to Bemanistyle, when this site was still less then 6 months old, what a dumb mistake that was.

Happy Birthday to the site and a big thanks to Colin and all the staff for keeping everything running smoothly and building such a great community over the years.

Also, a big thanks comes from (in addition to myself) Yasu, Akudaikan, and Koichiro for the great times in London. I know Akudaikan in particular still talks about it to this day. Should you ever find yourself in Tokyo for whatever reason or we find ourselves in London again, drinks are on me.
