Another October Expo, another nice event to run some awesome gaming tournaments!

DDR:UK Dancing Stage Championships

October comes around and once again it's DDR:UK Dancing Stage Championships... and it seems, another win for Maxx-Storm! For the 3rd year running, Maxx-Storm has managed to put down any challengers against him and remain the undisputed champion of DDR over here in the UK!

Although the arrangements were a little close to the expo this time, we still managed to happily accomodate a 16 person double elimination bracket, and still had enough top players attend to make things interesting. The scoring was changed at the last moment to make Marvellouses worth 2 points, Perfects and Okays 1 point, and everything else 0 points, which seemed to work nicely for the event with no issues brought up at all. the crowds were out in force to cheer everyone on in each match, so it seemed it wasn't just the players who had a great day!

Here is the full bracket. Bunny was a noshow and got DQ'd as a result.

Next year we will be bringing back the regional qualifiers, and I'll be hoping to announce those VERY early next year so that everyone has a chance to perpare. The finals are once again planned for the October MCM expo, which gives you all plenty of time to get ready to challenge the seemingly untouchable Maxx-Storm :-) I hope to see you all again next year, thanks for attending!

The Seeding[

Song - Brazilian Anthem, Expert

The numerical score is the total using the previously mentioned scoring system.

1 - Maxx-Storm - 486
2 - Brittany - 451
3 - Wildfireskunk - 446
4 - Airmarshal - 434
5 - Aisoku - 407
6 - Bunny - 386
7 - Taronuke - 378
8 - Paul - 372
9 - Omar - 364
10 - Brandon - 326
11 - Zedo - 288
12 - Dancingninja - 233
13 - D Junior - 223
14 - Zami - 124
15 - Dave - 59
16 - Shish - 12

Indiviidual matchups will be posted up later in a seperate text document.

Battle of the Bands - Rock Band Tourny

Mr Shadowman once again took up the role of band organiser and held another awesome Rock Band tournament! Team Four Star came, saw, and rocked the socks off of the competition even more than they have been for the last couple of years (of course, only due to the absence of the Wildsquall Kodiax...).

I'll leave this for Shadowman to fill up otherwise I'm likely to ramble, but from what I hear it was a great tournament and I'm sure that tradition is gonna keep :-)

Expo 2v2 Smash Brawlfest

That's right, 2v2 team tournament! We were in 2 minds about having a 1v1 on the saturday due to the London Ranking Battle being on the same day, but the planned t/o didn't arrive until late into the day regardless, so the official 1v1 was cancelled. That didn't stop us having a super awesome 2v2 on the sunday.

11 teams entered, one left. Everyone suspected that Willz and Kira were going to form a supermegateam and destroy anyone who even glanced in their direction, but Kira didn't show up until gone 3 so that idea was out the window! The eventual winners were none other than expo regulars, Wolf and Whitesquall. Fronting a devastating team of Wolf and Ike, not even Willz and Johnny could stand upto them in the finals, and they left with the cash.

Next May there will be the usual 32 player (or maybe even 64, depending on numbers) 1v1 tournament on the saturday, and another 2v2 on the sunday. We'll have more than 1 TV for it next time, and there will be stricter rules over controllers (meaning bring your own, or you're using the GC controller!).

The entire 2v2 bracket. More notice next time, more entrants I'm sure...

And that's the complete roundup for the 2009 October expo! Next time we hope to do much much more. The DDR tournament being planned is going to be very different to the usual ones, and a lot more fun to participate in I feel... Keep coming to the expo and supporting DDR:UK anyways, and we hope to see you all in May!

It was quite a pleasant surprise if you ask me. Not all of the "1337" dance game players turned up so I had a chance to do well. :-) Even if I did get owned, all of the non Expert players would see me as godly. :O I'm normally very hush hush about my achievements so it was a good chance to show how much I've improved.

"regional qualifiers" Is there gonna be one in Norfolk next year? If not, I'll just turn up to Expo and qualify there. Besides, playing with a crowd helps me focus. :-)

Lol I didn't try in seeding song.
I H8 BRAZILLIAN ANTHEM!

oh yeah and the top 4:
1.Maxx storm (rob)
2.Brixx (Brittany)
3.Brandon(me) :-)
4.Omar

That tournament was fun but I wouldn't have came 3rd if kdogg, dancefreak and adamanix entered again but where were they this year?

And Mike, when are you going to be announcing the qualifiers?
I'll be happy to organise the Ireland qualifier again. :-)

EDIT: I won't be at the Expo in May but hopefully next October again!

Brandon, Kyle retired from dance games since August. So there's NO chance he'll ever play again; he's an IIDX player now. Kris I have no idea why he didn't enter and Adam simply didn't turn up (well at least on the Saturday, I have no idea whether he turned up on the Sunday or not).

Edit: "I H8 BRAZILLIAN ANTHEM!" THANK YOU! I also hate that piece of crap as well. :-)

Yeah, Kyle is out of the game now so he didn't have a chance of winning. Kris was going to enter but said he felt bad on the day so wasn't up to entering, and a lot of other people (John, MCW, Scott, Adam, etc) didn't make it to the expo at all so didn't enter. They all hold the (very understandable) opinion that ITG > DDR in terms of fun and competitiveness, so that's probably why they didn't appear.

ITG championships anyone? :-)

Well I'm still tentatively thinking about entering the February tournament, even though I'm not really into tournaments anymore. Only reason I throughly enjoyed this one is because it was a fun tournament and I didn't have to pay lots of money just to get my **** whooped. :-) Mind you I have my CF up and running now, so I just gotta practise when I get time. :-)

EDIT: "ITG > DDR in terms of fun" As much as I like ITG, there's some classic mixes out there. For me EuroMix 2, Extreme JP and SN2 JP are great imo (was gonna say Fusion as well but I know that I'll get shot down for it xD).

EuroMIX 2 was shoddy and rushed, and not a patch on DDRMAX 2. I despised it when it was first released.

EuroMIX on the other hand... classic :-)

But in terms of pure fun, I'd take a 3rdMIX ver.Korea 2 or 5thMIX over ITG any day of the week. In terms of competitiveness, that's a whole other issue.

Let's remember Chi that most people don't have access to those mixes :-) And although Euromix had some classics, the shoddy framerate and graphics reeeally put me off going back to it nowadays. Euromix 2 is still my favourite EU DDR/DS release :-)

Fun for me is pushing myself to pass new things, and to score highly on songs I really like, which alas means that DDR is sorely lacking for me. Not to say I won't stick a few quid in a well maintained EM2 if I see one though!
