Edit mode is finally here, after a long time in the works, the updates have been shipped out to all European DDRX locations. This will allow you to use your USB keys in the DDRX Arcade machines to play your own edit steps. Here is the letter from Konami!

Dear DDR Fans,
Just a quick line to let you know we have now shipped the latest update for the DDR X game to the locations in Europe.
This update will allow the USB edit function to work on the game therefore you are able to use the following website to design your own steps to music tracks on DDR X.
http://ddredit.konamionline.com/ddrse/
There are simple instructions on the website to follow and we are sure your guys will get a lot of fun from the system, designing and playing your own steps and swapping them with others (it is possible to e-mail the file to other players to use on their machines with a USB memory stick). Please note that the data is region sensitive therefore US created data will not work on EU machines.
The update requires the location to update the software on the machine and the new serial number should be HDX:E:A:A:2009091100. This information is shown in the top left corner of the screen during the “Attract Mode” (e.g. when no one is playing the game) when the DDR X logo is on the screen. If you find any locations in Europe not running this version of the software please feel free to contact us on the following mail address and we will follow it up – enquiries@konami.co.uk
It is easy to see which machines have the Edit Function enables on them as again in “Attract Mode”, the following logo is shown in the top right corner of the screen when the DDR X logo is shown.
Hope you enjoy and we look forward to reading your thoughts about it on the forums.
All the best
Konami Digital Entertainment

Not being able to share data between counties is really dumb and pointless, but otherwise I'm glad that this feature is finally here! If there were any DDRXs south of London, and the pads weren't as bad as the first releases were, I'm sure I'd give it a go.

I read the terms and conditions on the editor and thought "no thanks" from what i can gather ANYTHING made on that editor instantly becomes konamis property and they can claim ownership over it or say you had no part in the creation of it o_O That's kinda like admitting some people may make files better than they can and they might want to use them in the future without our consent.
Still wish they addeed keyboard input like EVERYONE asked though and as for the whole EU/US/JP barrier, renaming the file seems to just fix it from what i remember

Dancefreak is correct. I'm surprised there tbh, as there's so much scope for interesting competitions and fun things they could do with the ability to save all of these charts, but would require linking the username of the maker to the chart. I can't see Konami stealing any charts for future mixes (how often do they rechart already charted songs anyway? ), but I guess the rather strict way they've come across with their disclaimer could be enough to put people off.
Either way, as I said I shant be using it. ITG + R21 = DDRX songs on a good machine with edit charts that belong to and are accredited soley to me, with a better scoring system and better pads

Don't most machines have their USB ports disabled by default anyway? They should have had this from the start, because now not only do they have the problem of getting arcade owners to upgrade their machines, but in the case of upgraded ones, i don't want to have to convince my local manager to let me go into the operator menu of his machine.
Oh god that editor is horrible :/ There are only about 10 songs you can make edits for, none of which I've played or even heard before, and the editor interface itself lags so much I can't tell where each bar starts and ends. Is this some kind of rubbish joke, Konami?

Believe it or not but it WAS worse to begin with, apparently the new patches though konami will be chasing up arcades that dont install it and encouraging them to install it, i HOPE it enables USB's by default though like it really should do.
The editor to be blunt is dreadful, it was terrible to begin with and now its not as bad but still pretty bad, it lags horribly, you cant record charts theres no keyboard input, it takes hours to make a chart regardless how good or bad it is and you have the STUPID terms and conditions. What the hell was wrong with just giving us a PS2 editor or even a downloadable editor which can stream the mp3's from a secure site to allow us to make the edits? Its a much more sensible idea and much more accesible as it would use less ram in the long run because currently all its memory usage is coupled with your browser of choices usage as well.
It's not like konami cant think the right way though , look at DDRPC! that was FINE for edits and sharing edits, they appear to be just choosing to do everything the opposite way to what is logical. They dont appear to be listening to feedback at all, and before they say either A) They dont get any or B) They do ask on ddrcommunity, they dont get any because they've never listened in the past and ddrcommunity... didnt they all unanimously vote in favour of usb's then konami went and said they'd use SD cards because they wanted to? The data is still in the game so evidently they just got lazy and changed it back to USB because they couldnt be bother to implement it!
Mini rant over, its nice to see edit support finally but its a shame its essentially one step forward, three steps back!

Perhaps someone will come up with an .sm to .whatever that gives you converter to allow you to do it SM, one day?

Theres a dwi one for DDREditmax so i imagine it wouldnt take too much effort for someone to comile a tool that reads an sm file and codes it into an edit file.
At least then we'd be able to make edits without the patience of a saint and without giving konami rights to our own work, like in the old days of ps1 memory card support

If I remember correctly, Trocadero's DDR X doesn't even HAVE usb ports ._. good for LittleTiger in Manchester though
Someone needs to try it out, and see how well it works.

Trocs does now , they changed it for one of the "Newer" machines, all of them have them by default.
